Door speaker comes and goes. Help! V70-XC70 1999

I have inherited my wife's '99 na V70 and am trying to work out some issues.

One of which is the driver's side front door speaker. It mostly doesn't work. But sometimes I can hit the door lock button and get it to work. Other times I can thump the door with my knee and make it work. I'm guessing there's a loose connection somewhere behind the door panel.

Any suggestions? I'd like to try to anticipate as much as I can before pulling the panel. I have another speaker, what else should I prepare for?

Thanks, as always, David.

My 1998 did that on the passenger side. A good 'bump' and it would sometimes work. Turns out that the cone was cracked and a swift kick could move the cone just enough that it would work for a little while.

Beware, the speaker screw holes and connector are side specific. Also, the plastic door panel hold downs tend to break easily.

Thanks. I went to the pick n pull and got a speaker and practiced on a couple of door panels. I also picked up a few plastic panel clips. I'll swap it out next Saturday.

Is WeatherTech the only company making vent visors for '99 S/V70s? Theirs are $115. We got a set for my son's Lexus RX300 for $35.

That's why I love Pick & pulls. I killed 2 hood releases for a 240 before I figured out how to get one out without damage. Same with the wrap around rear plastic for an 850 - who knew there was a bolt back there?

As to the weather tech vent, I had one on a Mazda MPV. I tossed it after almost destroying the window regulator. The glass fits real tight at the top and the addition of the extra plastic put too much load on the motor to close the window properly. The MPV vent was also cheap.
