2004 v70 oem battery? V70-XC70

I've got a 2004 volvo v70. I've had the car for about 7 years. It has about 113k miles.

I am giving the car to a daughter and thought that I would look at the battery for the first time (it is hard to get to) - I am not sure if it is the oem or not. I thought it might need to replacement soon. However, it looks in excellent shape and It didn't have any dates on it. I don't have a tester.

It is an interstate mega tron plus, mtp-h6. 85 month pro rata warranty.

Made in Spain.

Do you think this came with the car? If so, it is 12 years old and still running!

FYI - the local Volvo dealer parts department told me that Volvo batteries are made by Interstate. I've found on two occasions that I could buy the Volvo labeled battery from the dealer for a bit less $$$ than a comparable battery from the chain auto parts stores.

If your daughter does not live at home, I would suggest that you spend an hour's labor to have your dealer check the car out for their certified used car check. I have done this with several used cars, and it was well worth the money.

As was mentioned, the battery probably did not come with the car, and after 7 years, I would suspect that the current one might be tired. The original battery must have lasted 4 years or so.

If she will travel at all, a membership with AAA is a great idea.

BTW - on a long trip, do not leave your phone on chargre. My daughter's car died in Michigan and her phone died with it!

The AAA guy who picked her car up, had her call us from his garage, then took her to a hotel. Then, on a Sunday morning, his friend, who owned an auto electrical business, opened his shop, made a new set of brushes for her alternator (he had none to fit her 740), and had her on her way by noon!

It would be great for both of you if the car did not have any problems for some time.

All Volvo factory batteries say Volvo on them. If, and when, you replace the battery, I suggest taking a sharpie and painting the date on the top. Very few shops bother to punch out the date, and owners don't keep the receipt with the car records.

I gave my daughter a battery 'minder' so that she could charge the battery while the car is sitting idle for a month. I forgot to include a 50ft extension cord so she never used it.

Interstate makes real good batteries. It's not the original Volvo battery that came when the car was new. Sounds like the Interstate battery is at least seven years old if that's how long you've had the car. I have the same model and year and I've never replaced the battery, but I might as a precaution. When I do I'll definitely consider the Interstate if the Volvo battery is cost prohibitive.
