Early wear out of Inner RR pad S60 2012

Heard grinding from the RR wheel on my 2012 S60 T5 with just over 100K miles. All visible pads show about 1/2 pad wear. (original pads) About 80% of the mileage is interstate. Inspection revealed a totally worn (metal to metal) inner pad on the RR. Nothing seems to be bound up, floating caliper moving OK. Anyone else experience this?
I am replacing all pads with Textar, lifetime replacement guarantee from FCP Euro.

100K on Volvo pads isn't good enough?

Are you planning to drive more than 100K in the next 5 years?

I doubt if another brand of pads will give you the braking performance that you have grown to expect.

In the last 16 years I have read many, many posts about noisy off-brand pads and some that take a 100 feet to work in the rain - good luck.

The OP wasn't so concerned about rear pads wearing, but the right rear inner pad dissolving long before the other rear pads. This is a Volvo problem due to the parking brake motor not releasing the pad enough.

Miles driven have nothing to do with brake pad wear. When I drive from here to Chicago or Denver, I hardly use the brakes. Also, I no longer commute and get stuck in slow bumper to bumper traffic. My current brake pads have 110K miles on them and there is a lot of pad left.

Auto makers have changed the way brakes operate so that the rear pads may wear FASTER than front pads.

A few years ago, many owners were caught by this change as they had rear pad problems sneak up on then as they expected rear pads to last twice as long as front ones as had occurred in the past.

The solution - check all pads during regular maintenance.

Every 7500 service, I get pad thickness and expected life measures on all wheel positions from my dealer.

My son-in-law is a Subaru tech and he tells me that newer Subarus wear their rear pads faster than the fronts also.

Brake pads are a wear item, none of them 'should' last forever.

Obviously, someone didn't inspect the brakes when rotating tires.

The inner rear pad is known to wear faster on the S60. I believe it has something to do with the EPB not releasing the caliper piston enough. Do not feel lonely, this has happened to very many Volvo owners.

Sounds like a bad caliper that was hanging up.
I had that here this summer.
There's two pistons and the inner was stuck.

Try a rebuilding kit on it, replacing the seal and dust boot.
You'll see how the piston retracts is all about the seal and the clean
groove that it sits in. Look it up, it's surprising how it works.

The rebuild kit I got didn't include the piston, but the piston looked fine
with no corrosion or damage. I got only the seal and boot. Maybe someone
sells a kit with a piston ? If it's too pricey get a rebuilt caliper.
I got one of them also and it looked like a new ATE caliper. The old one
may have been squared away with a seal kit, but no one had them locally and
I grabbed a rebuilt at the local parts emporium since I didn't want to be a
pedestrian for several days.

The kit is worth a try if you have it ahead of time.
