Corner lifting points for V70? V70-XC70

I need to lift up the front end of the V70 so I can bleed the power steering lines, so I need to set the car up on jackstands. Unfortunately, the
unbelievably useless owner's manual doesn't identify the corner lifting points for the jackstands, just where to place the jacks. Anyone know where to set the stands so that I don't damage anything or anyone?

(Also, I had a 40K service interval at the dealer two weeks ago, and they TOTALLY missed that the steering rack boots were filled with fluid--I must have had a slow leak for months, but only recently developed audible symptoms. I've never been thrilled with the dealership service but until now, they'd never been hugely incompetent. Anyone got a reliable mechanic in San Jose, CA?)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Regards,

      I've seen that picture 100 times 850 1997

      Sorry to be short...

That picture is great if you have a hydralic lift in your garage at home. So, where do you put the jack stands? (Saw the post below, I'll have to take a look for the arrows pointing to the corner jack points. Too cold out right now!)

I may need different jack stands - mine have a fairly deep saddle for axles, although they work on the jack points on my Saab.

I put a floor jack at the points that are circled.

I put the jack stand along the rail (lines on the drawing).

I lower the car onto the jack stand. I still keep the jack
in place, though. (I've never lifted both sides at the
        same time.)

If you look at the bottom of your sills, you will see two arrows molded into the material that point to the jacking points. These are also described in your owner's manual. I then put the jackstand under the subframe mount, and lower the car.

I know a few Volvo shops in my area that are decent, but I don't think anyone is "perfect". What makes all the difference is how the shops are willing to deal with their inevitable screw-ups.

Elissa, I lift my '99 V70 awd with my floor jack with a piece of 1/2" plywood on top of the jack saddle. It's a scrap piece about 7-8" sq. After using it a couple of times the 4 bumps on the saddle will stick into the plywood and it will then stay in place better. As you know the Sub-frame is kind of a big square box. In each corner is a large circular area with the bolt in the center which holds the sub-frame to the car. I put the F.J. with plywood in the center of the front cross member. Make sure to block the rear tires with wooden blocks and set the hand brake. This should be done on a smooth floor so that the jack can slowly roll backwards, so the car will not slip off the jack.
Depending on how high and what I need to access I will either put two axle stands on the left and rt. of the floor jack, and remove the jack, with the curved part of the axle stand under the crossmember such that the car can't go forward or backward while on the stand. Or if I need complete access under the front, then I will put the J.S's under the rear two sub-frame bolt heads. Again place them such that they can't slip out from their position. I have also moved them inwards toward each other, under the crossmember itself that connects the left and rt. sides of the sub-frame.
If I am jacking the rear of the car, I put the saddle with plywood rt. under the differential itself. Then I look for any rigid member, frame member preferably, but DO NOT put the stands under the axles if AWD or gas tank etc.
If I can leave the jack supporting the car also, I will let it down enough to "load the stands" then lock the jack in that position. Be careful ! Tom

    Frustrating question V70-XC70

This is a frustrating question. I am also looking for an answer to this question. I find it unbeleivable that it is so hard to find an answer to this very simple basic question. My Saab has 4 jack points on each corner - easy to find, easy to use. What's up with the Volvo? I love the car, but I hate that little round bar near the pillar between the front and back doors. You have to jack up much more weight than if you are only jacking the corners. And where the heck do you put jack stands?????????
    Good luck.

      Jacking points V70-XC70

The Haynes manual (British) shows a reinforced place on the back of the spare tire wheelwell. On the front, they recommend any point of the subframe. This is really a pain. I guess the assumption is DIY'ers will be extinct and a shop will be using a commercial lift.
