V70 - Replacing upper engine mount V70-XC70 1998

Upper engine mount ripped almost all the way through. Time to change. However, I don't want to change with the two piece aftermarket ones. Has anyone here changed themselves with an OEM part? Did you just make or purchase your own tool to 'press' the new one in? I figure I can hacksaw the old one out.

thanks
pat

Pat, I bought the whole aluminum assembly from the Volvo Dlr. Rubber bushing is already pressed in the correct location. Easy swap if you have metric sockets. As I recall, it was about $40. Tom ('99 V70 awd)

I replaced mine with an oem myself.

Yes, you can get the old one out using a hacksaw blade, but be careful not to cut the seating surface. I left the bracket in the car, and using a set of large flat washers and a long nut and bolt, I was able to "pull" the new mount into the mounting seat. It was a pia, and took about an hour. You can't just push or pound the new mount into the metal bracket.

If you are real ambitious, you could pull the bracket off the engine, and then possibly take the bracket and the mount to a machine shop and have them press it in.

I think Volvo techs have a special tool for this.

Good luck.

John,

Could you be a little more specific on how you used the long bolt and washer? like size, orientation and strategy to get the thing in?

Seems mine motor mount is torn and i have to fix it. Its my first time.

Aftermarket is stiffer? More likely added vibrations? V70-XC70 1998

Yeah, but I've read so many posts where people complain about added vibrations due to it being stiffer. Extra annoying when stopped idling at a light. Seems like for every post where someone says it doesn't do it, someone else says it does. So I'm going to give the OEM a shot. Worst case, I end up going aftermarket. But if I can get the OEM one in, then so much the better.

thanks

Dude, don't waste your time with the oem mount,it's only going to break again.Buy the one from IPD and you will not have to replace it again!
