Won't start 850 1994

For about a week or so the weather in Montreal has been hovering around -25 degrees celcius daytime high. The 850 Turbo lives outside all of the time.
This past friday the car started normally & was driven in the A.M. & early
afternoon. A few hours later I went out to start it & it refused to start.

For two days I tried the usual..even installed new plugs. Finally it was towed to a local garage where a "tune-up" was performed (wires - cap - rotor - filters) It still won't go. It turns over normally & stumbles as though it is
trying to start, but that's it. The "mechanic has suggested the timing belt may
have jumped a cog, but by this time I believe he is groping in the dark. Does anyone have any ideas what to check next ?
.

I had a similar problem. Tried several things and ended up taking the car to the dealer. They replaced the cam position sensor and it has worked great since. I hope this helps!

Did it start after the car went into the heated garage at your mecanics place or it didn't start since? Do you know if there is signal(spark) that goes to the coil? Have they checked for codes? Usually that kind of problem can be related to cam and crank sensors.

No it hasn't started since. About 2 years ago the camshaft position sensor failed. It was replaced and we happily motored along until now. The only
code displaying is 315 for the evap system. Will a failed cam position sensor
always produce a fault code? There is spark & lots of fuel in the cylinder.
The timing belt was replaced about 80,000 kilometers ago. Could it have jumped
      a cog or two ?

        IT STARTS NOW !

It was flooded to the point that the accumulated cylinder pressure prevented the pistons from reaching TDC. The timing belt jumped 3 teeth. All seems OK.

Thanks to all for the responses.

I'm going thru the same problem now. How did you finally diagnose the problem? How do you figure out timing belt has jumped? My '93 850 (126k)has been doing this off and on for a week. Every now and then it starts up. Then as soon as my eighteen year old takes it and turns it off he can't restart it.

I had just changed his coolant, brake fluid, ATF. Checked his brake pads, etc. I thought I must have run the battery down just enough to prevent it from turning over. Then I go get the car and it starts right up. I started teasing my wife and son about having bad ju-ju. Until today, I can't for the life of me figure it out. Battery checks out OK. there is juice from the coil, plugs look fine, I just changed the fuel filter but that seems ok. I had driven it for 10 miles yesterday and my son another 10 today before he turned it off this afternoon. He went back out and nothing. This is making me crazy. HELP!

Intercooler frozen up with ice? Watch intercooler hoses while cranking for collapsing hose. Look around for recent posts on this topic. One suggested removing the top hose as a diagnsostic test.

Just a few things I can think of.

Check spark, make sure fuel is delivered.
Cam sensor could also cause no start problem.
Other than that, lawn mower syndrome? If you haven't start it and shut it off before the car warmed up, that's probably not the problem.
