Replacement bearing $25. V70-XC70

I replaced the bearing with a federal mogul part number. As noted with the dialogue that I have been having with JustMe, I am figuring out whether I ran into one bad apple of a dealer (or two). At this point neither the dealer in South Carolina nor the one in Pennsylvania that I contacted wanted to talk about the bearing replacement.

The bearing is a simple replacement procedure, low tech at best. I had sent or thought I had sent a note to the administrator at Bay13, but with no response as of yet. The trickiest part being you need a 20 inch extension to reach the top bolts which hold the viscous coupler assembly onto the rear differential. I used 1/2 drive because of the size and tightness, Sears sells the extensions for about $16. Once the assembly is removed you must remove the 30mm nut which holds the driveshaft hub end of the viscous coupler into the assembly. I took that to a shop where for free the just zipped it off with an air gun (I brought my own socket, took 15 seconds). THe viscous couple comes out of the assembly with a couple taps with a hammer and a punch (to make sure you don't bung up the threads for the 30mm nut). No press fit for the viscous coupler. The bearing is glued into the assembly with the stuff they use to fill in around bearings (a permatex product). I took it to my now favorite driveline shop where they likewise did it for nothing because it just kind of popped out. I tapped the new one back in place and used some of the permatex stuff. It has been whisper quiet since.

I do have images of the parts which I will post on Bay13 if they want me to. We shall see.

Thanks for asking, I have been very frustrated with the expense of owning this car and feel so much relief knowing it doesn't really have to cost arms and legs to replace basic simple low tech wear items on the awd parts. We ain't talking computers here.
At this point my replacements have included:
air conditioner condensor
top and bottom right motor mounts
front wheel bearing
drive shaft center bearing
viscous coupler bearing
(incidently rear wheel bearings in search of the noise)
master power window switch
Tail gate inside panel replacement kit
one door lock assembly (one more to go but I will try the fix on bay13 first)
the headlight switch assembly (warranty)
parking light sockets (warranty)

My car has about 127k miles thus far, mostly real highway miles (600 miles in a day) accounting for over 60% of the driving. Any of the above issues I would more then happy to regale you with the solutions and expense.
