My 97 850, 107K, air conditioner lights flash together when the a/c is turned on. How do fix this?

    try cleaning the temp sensors with alcohol and q tips they are located behind the grab handles over the front doors.

    the flasing lights mean a internal malfunction with ac, does it work on auto?
    if cold in manual but not auto then the contollor or sensors are bad

    They flash when there is a malfunction in the A/C system. As posted before you need a scantool to read the codes on the '97s. You can pick one up on Ebay cheap enough or order one online. I use the Equus 3100 but the Actron 9135 is another good scantool, they will both give you all the trouble codes. Do you notice poor performance from your A/C system? It could just be low on freon.       How much do the scanners cost? I disconnected the battery and the lights started flashing after that. The a/c cools and works fine. Thanks.

        They don't ever flash if just low on freon (134a). They only flash if there's a fault code stored and disconnecting the battery won't fix that either.

        Unless you want to begin learning diagnostics the hard way (not always does a code mean "replace that part"), you might be better off by just taking the car to someone with experience (dealer or indy). I say this because you might buy a scan tool and still discover that you lack knowlegde/skills to then determine how to proceed. Some here might be experienced/skilled enough but not everyone is.

    A scan tool is required to retrieve any codes in your car.

    I have 94 850t when lights flash in that manner it is a fault code in a/c system, check haynes or chilton manual will tell how to retrieve and what codes are, it escapes me at this moment how to obtain but am sure its in manual.
