STRANGE CLICKING FROM CENTRE OF DASH 98 S70

just last few months is a crazy fairly rapid clicking sound from the centre of the dash. Makes no difference if the A/C is on or off. It seems as if there is a flap or actuator trying to move in a random fashion. Then it stops only to start again at some other time for no logical reason. Any ideas? Cheers, Phil
