This has turned out to be a big mess. I just got my HU-611 replaced by a Sony aftermarket MP3/WMA stereo system.
I paid for getting the stereo installed professionally. However, the technician did not disconnect the battery while installing the stereo. This resulted in the SRS airbag error message. Ofcourse, we tried the standard methods by disconnecting the battery (for a couple of hours and overnight) with no success. I should have read the forums on this website.
I went to another car repair facility which had access to a volvo scan tool. However, the scan tool kept saying "Link failed" when trying to read the SRS codes. The same "link failed" message was displayed if he tried to read messages concerning the car audio system. But the scan tool could read messages from other modules with no problem (e.g. DTC codes from Engine, Transmission system, etc.).
I have spent numerous hours trying to find any relevant information. What I am afraid is if I go to the dealer (they will charge me $115 just to touch the car), they might send me back to the stereo technician to restore the original stereo (and then return back). If anyone has any idea or suggestion, I would appreciate it. I really would like to keep the aftermarket stereo if possible.
Thank you,
Ashwin
