Repainting my wagon 850 1997

While I was out of town for a week on business, my helpful but clueless kid
went after some bird droppings on the hood and roof of our '97 Nautic Blue
850 wagon with a pot scrapper. I now have the unhappy task of dealing with
the consequences.

I've never had a car repainted before....any idea of how much it will cost
to return mine to the appearance it had pre-pot scrapper? Take my word for
it, this is not a job for touch-up paint. Is it possible to just get the
hood and roof of the car repainted without the overall effect looking bad?
Should I just go to the Volvo dealer and ask for a recommendation of a
place to take it to for repainting, or would this be the unnecessarily
(possibly my wistful thinking kicking in here) highest-cost alternative?
In other words, can I risk looking for a paint job elsewhere than where he
would send me? I've read that repainting can be easily $5000 if it's not a
slap-dash job.....yikes, that's a quarter of the price I just paid for the
car 2 months ago!

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Dale
