Major brake problem (does ABS have a mind of its own?)>> 850 1996

Hey all,

I have a 1996 850 Turbo and I've been having some problems braking lately. I just replaced all the pads and bled the system, but a problem I've had in the past and now again (it seems that this happens everytime new pads are installed or if the brakes are real hot); the brakes start to modulate and vibrate rather violently as coming to a complete stop. It happens after a few regular stops, and then starts to seem that ABS is modulating real quick and it starts to vibrate the car violently under gentle to normal stopping conditions (mind that the brakes are still relatively cool). It also starts to feel like the brakes are fading. All of this is happening on the third or fourth gentle stop of the day????

Anyone know what this is? Anyone experience this? I've seen the abs light come on once but then shut off very quickly to never be seen again during driving. I switched my pads to PBR deluxe pads hoping they would be quiet and smooth. My rotors looked okay so I didn't replace them (they are smooth and there seems to be no warpage). I have about 65k mi and the fronts rotors were replaced at 40k and the rears have never been. So that leads me to another Question, how long do the rear rotors last under regular driving conditions (50%hwy, 50% city)?

When starting to brake, when doing so gently, a whistle like howl eminates and then as I get to lower speeds, the car starts to vibrate, like a real fast modulation. It seems like something is being over burdened. When installing the pads, I did use the CRC brake quiet goop and carefully pieced together the rest of the system (I've replaced brakes on similar ATE units on BMWs (almost identical to the Volvo's) I figure simple mechanical brakes should push against a rotor and not pulsate violently and quickly at a real low speed (as the car used to drive before I ever had brake work done. The squealing of my second set of pads is what prompted me to change them out this time myself). Even at high speed the braking remains smooth with very little or no shimmy, so that is how I figure the rotors are fine.

Please, any advice comments would be appreciated. But remember that the pulsation has been had with other pads too and comes on in big doses recently after pad changes. Is this an electrical failure? Any ABS recalls? I know I've had something in the ABS replaced early in the car's life as that annoying ABS light kept coming on about 25-30k mi ago.

Thanks,

Salah
