1993 850 GLT...WACKY TRANSMISSION!! HELP!!! 850 1993

My transmission DOESN'T slip BUT It wants to shift down/up way to often and sometimes stays in low gear forever until I play with the shifter. Is this 2 problems or just one. Here is some info: The Shift/Winter arrow light DOESN'T seem to be Malfunctioning like others have reported, so I doen't know if it the PNP switch. The car has 173K. What can I do??
