Burning oil 850

I've just had my 1995 2 litre 20v 850 in the shop for a couple of issues. They noted while it was there that it was quite smokey and ran a couple of diagnostics:

The lamda sensor was gone
The crankshaft sensor was gone
There was blue smoke on startup and after a few minutes idling.

I have been told that I should probably look at getting another car as mine is burning oil and would probably need an engine rebuild!

These guys are not volvo specialists and I want to know if there is any simple solution to my problems that they are unaware of?
