How did this happen???? 850 1993

Driving home from Dinner, both my serpentine belt, and timing belt broke? Although I didnt own it then, service records say that both belts were done at 80,000 Kilometres? I know that Im going to need to get a rebuilt engine, but what would have happened to break BOTH belts?
