My failure was nowhere near as catostrophic but at high revs I lost power and the engine ran rough. Turns out the valve in #2 hit the piston and bent. Had the head machined and put back together again. 600 miles later at normal revs the same thing happens only this time on #1. I see the reference to the tensioner. Any opinions on whether a tensioner problem could lead to the problems I describe - such as a leaking (?) tensioner would allow the belt to jump (?) whatever.
The mechanic also commented that it was weird but when the timing marks on the camshafts and the crankshaft were all aligned the #1 cylinder was not at TDC.
