Fuel Filter as easy as it sounds? 850 1994

After reading Volvospeed Bay13 is it really that simple? Would I be correct in letting the pressure out from the air valve before removing the fuel filter to prevent it from spraying out? After attaching the new filter do you use anything to keep it plugged together?
