Recently, I posted a query regarding replacing the original windshield on my '96 850 GLT wagon (over 200K on the clock). The need to replace the windshield arose due to the multiple chips and scratches to the windshield over the years. I sought people's opinion on whether I should insist on replacing the window with an OEM Volvo window or agree to an aftermarket windshield, which was all my insurance company would pay for due to the age of my car.

Ultimately, I had a windshield installed that was manufactured by the European glass company, Sekurit. Sekurit supplies glass as OEM to several European car manufactures including VW and possibly Saab. The glass was manufactured in Sweden and has the year of manufacture (2001). I've compared the Sekurit windshield to the OEM windshield (I have another '96 850GLT wagon with the original windshield) and they are identical with the exception of the names "Volvo" and "Pilkerton?" etched into the glass. The replacement windshield is a vast improvement, in terms of vision, over the old one. I guess I'll have to see how it stands up to the small pebbles and sand that did in the OEM window.
