Right on Homer. Goes to show you that sometimes you just need to crank the piss out of them. Glad that worked out, I am sure that the tech probably wanted to not do that job almost as much as you wanted not to have to pay for it.
Now as far as what causes that and what you can do to avoid a repeat is kind of a mystery. I have had a few customers come in over the years with that condition and I usually recommend synthetic oil and a strict oil change regiment, 2500-3000 miles like religion. I really do not recall anyone coming back for seconds on that complaint so I guess, stay ontop of your oil changes and use synthetic. As a side note I have had people who opted to just stay ontop of the oil change interval and not use the synthetic and they have had just as good of results as using the synthetic.
