Most of our bricks have been good on coolant and stayed right at the high mark all their lives, or list a small amount from time to time.
However one of out 740s did not like to be full and would leave the service department full, but would soon spit coolant out until it was mid-way between high and low.
I made a line at the half-way level on the reservoir and marked it "full". When the service department left it alone, the car never spit out any more coolant, and it stayed at this level for 50,000 miles, summer and winter.
I will tell you that our routine was to check fluid levels weekly because all our Volvos are old.
Fill your coolant to the full line when cold and watch it, some cars are different than others, but all should be watched.
I would go back and ask them to top it off - they probably will not want to do this when the car is hot though. Check the coolant when you pick the car up after your next service - if it is low then, raise a rukus.
