Remote Car Starter 850 1995

I live in the Buffalo, NY area and I would like to install a remote car starter in my '95 850 GLT. I tried the dealer first and they told me that Volvo does not recommend it because it will disable the alarm. Is this entirely true? A lot of people here have them in their cars (no Volvos - yet) and they have no problems. Does anybody have any experience in this area with their Volvo? Help!
