replacing CV boots on an 850 GLT

I'm in the middle of this. It took a few tries and trips to Sears to figure out that the big axle nut is a 36mm. I'm past that now.

I have the whole thing apart and loose (swaybar links off, which need to be replaced anyway; strut separated from axle; control arm out, also replacing).

But... I'm curious how you get the axle out of the tranny. Obviously a puller of some kind is required. The local shop said a couple of screwdrivers would do it, but I don't think there is enough clearance.

Posts here or an email to dans@audifans.com would be most welcome.

I'll try to snap some digital photos of the job.
