Major Tune Up - Who to believe?? 850 1997

I recently bought a new 97 850 GLT with 41K on it. I got it from my father-in-law. He told me that the major 40K tune up was done at about 38K. I called the Volvo dealer where the work was done and they have a record of the car coming in at 38K but cannot tell me what was done in the service area. My father-in-law is not the most mechanically inclined but he tells me that the bill was for about $300.

Now then, I am rather anal about my vehicles and their care. I am planning a major replacement of most fluids/filters. This will include Amsoil Air Filter, Amsoil Oil/Oil Filter, Fuel filter, spark plugs, drive belt, and distributor/rotor.

I spoke to my dealer about flushing the brakes, automatic transmission, and the radiator/coolant. They told me that this was not required. I live in Memphis, TN with high heat/humidity. I believe that as hygroscopic (water absorbing) as brake fluid is - it would warrant a flush every two years. The coolant will eventually not protect metals as it should. And this board has beaten to death ATF fluid and the need to replace.

Is what I am preparing to do overkill, being anal, or just good preventative maintence???? Should I leave the brake fluid/coolant/ATF alone or change them???

Any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Andrew T. Watson
