Frozen brake cable 850

Actually, I think yours would pass inspection here in CT, as they did away with pre-registration safety inspections years ago! True, it would not pass emissions with a CEL illuminated.

This car came from my sister who bought it new. Although she did have it serviced regularly, it suffered from items that most people let go as cars get older. A/C wasn't working, previously mentioned rt. parking brake cable was frozen, falling driver's visor, bad dimmer switch, broken odometer, seat recliner cable pulled out, etc. So I've spent quite a bit of time sorting things out while keeping it on a reasonable budget.

There have been items that I bit the bullet and changed even though they were working because this car needs to be reliable for a 90 mile per day commute. Like the fuel pump & relay, CPS, shock mount, etc.

One of the things that I found is how common the failures are. Almost seems like anything that is wrong is very typical and easy to find answers from online forums. I guess you'd see that with any 17 year old car.

Still, it has been a rewarding learning experience for someone otherwise versed in RWD Volvos.
