Castrol Syntech ??? V70-XC70 2001

I just scheduled my 7500 mile service and asked the service tech if they have a synthetic oil as an option for the oil change. He said they can use Castrol Syntech for about $25 more. Is this a good price? Is this a good oil? When I asked if they recommend a synthetic, he hesitated to give me a straight answer, only saying that he uses it in his Chevy truck that has 120k on it. Also, if I do go with the synthetic, can the change interval be greater then 7500? Thanks for all feedback everyone. Tom.
