97 850 Engine Swap 850 1997

After sitting for some years, with its replacement also sitting in the garage, I am about to embark on swapping the engine in our 97 855. Haynes would have me do this "conventional" style, with a hoist, from above. However a few people have told me I'll have a much easier time of it just dropping the whole subframe, drive package and all, and pulling it out from underneath. This will be the first time I've pulled a white block. Suggestions? I know to get it out from underneath means lots of height, but that's not an issue.

I've been thinking if I do it from below I'll pull the halfshafts and leave the struts a-danglin', if that's an option.
