A '50' oil has GOT to be better than a '30'...

Doesn't a "50" oil protect an engine better than a "30"??? Especially if it is going to generate higher temperatures than before it was tuned? I believe, yes. Is it any wonder why all over Europe the overwhelming majority of owners use oils such as 10W-40, 10W-50, 15W-40 and, now, 5W-50???? And most of the engines there are of even smaller displacement! That has been going on for MANY years now.

I think a 5W-50 will do a much better job than a 5W-30, all things being equal. I understand that AMSOIL may be a premium synthetic but I also understand that its best grade can cost double than a regualar synthetic (like Mobil 1, Syntec, Valvoline, etc.) which would suit fine the average owner here unless he/she were taking his/her car to the race track regularly...
