How much current is acceptable when the car is turned off?
Twice in the last two days our 1995 850 wagon with 105,000 miles on it would not start. The car does not have a security system.
Once, it made no efforts to turn over, but started about five minutes later. It was driven 12 miles home in the dark with no problems. Ie, the directionals, power windows, and lights all seemed to operate properly.
The next morning, the car started and was driven about two miles. After grocery shopping, it cranked slowly then died. About an hour later it turned over very slowly, but would not start. I applied jumper cables and noted a healthy spark. The car started immediatly and was driven home about two miles.
The water levels were OK in the battery so I charged the battery over night and took it to an auto store. They hooked it to an electronic (as opposed to load ) tester and pronounced the battery bad. Several stores in my area did not have a replacement battery, so I cannot get one for a few days.
I went to put the battery back in the car and noted a spark that was larger than I expected.
I measure 150 milliamps of current with everything off. No doors open, checked glove box light and I am in the process of pulling fuses right now.
