Wiper arm and spindle splines worn... 850 1995

Yesterday I decided to adjust the driver's side wiper that was coming to rest a bit high. I pulled the arm off to find that the splines in the arm and on the spindle are pretty worn out. The arm doesn't pivot loosely, yet, and barring paying for all the correct pieces to repair/replace, I'm considering using a dremel tool to cut a keyway in both the wiper arm and apindle and using a woodruff key to lock it in place. Actually, it wouldn't have to be square. Drilling a hole along the taper would allow a short piece of drill rod to be used for a key. I'll use the nut to secure it as it is now.

Crazy idea? I figure if it doesn't work I'll end up replacing both pieces anyway.
