95 850 ECU upgrade 850

I am tinking of changing my stock ECU for a performance tunned version. However, i am trying to research the side effects of such a mod. I have a 850 turbo (95) w/ auto trans. If i were to do this i would also change the exhaust from the cat back to a 2.5" dia with a sport muffler.

My question to all volvo experienced persons is what horror storys do you have to tell, or is this in fact a reasonably safe mod. Any info that can be offered including tips, links or what ever would be greately appriciated.

Also if anyone who has done this mod can explain what to expect with regards to drivabilty and real performance icreases would also be an asset.

Any other tips on how to safely squeeze power from this automobile?
