I think the part you are referring to is the PNP switch. But do you have any warning light on? Ususally, you should have the orange arrow light blinking if there is something wrong with the system. Would you be considering an ATF flush?
You can do it yourself or have it done in an transmission shop. That usually solves the problem for most of the owners.
