Rear Main Seal -- What's the urgency? 850

The rear main seal on my95 854 GLT Aut. (128k) has finally gone bad. The leak has been present for at least a month. I check the level almost every time I get in the car. The leak has been slow all along (about 1/3 quart every two weeks), and has not grown at all since it first appeared.

Here's the problem. I live in Mexico, at least 12 hours from the border. I have a new seal in hand, but I don't have an experienced Volvo mechanic nearby. I can drive the car about 3 hours to a Volvo dealer (that's been open for only a few months) to have them do it, or have a decent local shop do it, or keep an eye on the oil level and wait until I have an opportunity to drive back to the States to have a real (and experienced) Volvo mech take care of it (could be as long as 6 months).

I'm leaning toward taking it to the Volvo shop soon, but I'd like to hear some thoughts. Thanks in advance.
