That is a good question. I tried 91 octane--the highest available here in Denver(85,87,91 vs 87,91,93 at sea level) and didn't notice any difference personally, so I run 85. When I bought the car, I asked both the dealer mechanic and the sales person what octane to run and they both said to run the cheapest grade that works in the car. I asked a guy that delivers pump gas--the tanker truck at a gas station, and he said the same thing. Maybe I should run 91 as the book says, but I see no evidence to suggest doing so. Does anyone have any evidence to support the 91 octane use claim that Volvo recommends?
