Stranded in Rochester, HELP! 850 1993

Well I'm up in Rochester apartment hunting and my 93 854GLT is having problems. First off, every time I make a right hand turn, there is a high pitched hum coming from the front wheel. While this is obnoxious and is surely the sign of bad things to come if I don't fix it, this morning the tranny felt like it was slipping(automatic) and after stopping, shifting to park then back to drive it seemed to clear itself up, but 20 feet down the road the upwards arrow light on the dash came on and began flashing in time with the sport/economy lights. Unfortunately I need to get back to NYC (I was going to leave this afternoon) which is about 350 miles. I left my Haynes manual at home so I'm not sure which socket to read codes from, or what they mean for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I have to take it in(which I'd much rather do back home.
Thanks in advance,
-Sean
