High oil consumption V70-XC70 1999

Hi
I am noticing that lately my 1999 V70 Non-Turbo likes consuming oil!. I find I'm always bringing the oil level back to the full mark every 600 miles. It is not leaking, so it must be burning. Could this be some kind of crankcase breathing problem.
Any advice or comment would be most appreciated.
I'm running synthetic 10W30, so it is also getting expensive.
