2002 xc70 rear wheel problems V70-XC70

My 2002 XC 70 was 7 months old, with about 7K miles on it, when it started pulling to the right. Had it towed to local dealer who said the right rear wheel tie rod was shot. Then the next day, we were told the whole rear wheel had been pushed forward, bending the whole suspension and this needed to be replaced. The mechanic insisted we hit a pot hole going in reverse at greater than 50mph to do this. Of course we didnt. Other suggestion from the volvo mechanic was that a small car, like a honda, hit the right rear tire at hight speed in a parking lot pushing it forward! without any damage to our tire or body of the car?! The dealer we bought it from insisted it was in excellent shape when they received the vehicle as it goes through a 200ppoint inspection. Well it took 2 weeks to have it repaired at approximately $6k. Does anyone have any idea what would have caused this? any one hear of this before?
