After service light turned off, how long before OBD fully resets? V70-XC70 1998

I just purchased a used V70 glt. The previous owner just had the service light shut off after it came on for 60,000 service. They had the service done at a precision tune :( Then they had to go to the dealer to get the light turned off.

When I went to get a smog check (I'm in CA) the next day, the car failed. Emmissions were clean, but the "sytem malfunction light test failed due to failure to successfully complete all OBD self tests."

The guy at the smog place said I need to drive it for a few days for the OBD to fully reset. A guy at the local volvo indie shop said is should reset after about 15 miles of driving. I had already driven the car about 120 miles before the test (I drove from San Diego to L.A.). Anyone have any knowledge of how this works? Or have a similar experience? What would I need to do if the car fails for the same reason on the re-check?

I need the car to pass the smog test within 10 days in order for the car to be registered in my name.

thanks in advance.
