Location of Engine # S70 1998

I am preparing to replace the timing belt and tensioner on my 98 S70. There were 2 styles of tensioners put in this model and the engine # determines which style of tensioner is needed. One style is the "hydraulic style" which Bay 13 has a replcement procedure for. The other is the "mechanical" style which as I understand it requires a trip to the dealer because I have yet to find a replacement procedure for it.
Where on the engine can the engine # be found? I found a number that looked similar to the ranges listed in the online parts catalog. The number was stamped in the aluminum cover over the fuel injectors.
Any help with the engine # location or help with the mechnical tensioner replacement procedure will be appreciated.
Thanks,
GP
