Can't clear code 850 1993

Car goes into limp mode after15-20 minutes of driving.Flashing arrow comes on.Retrived Code 232 from A1 plug.
I have changed the speed sensor(the one located on top of tranny just aft of the trans.main wire connecter two wires to connector from sensor and pins16/17 at the connector)Also flushed and changed the fluid.
So two questions:
-Did I change the correct sensor for this fault code?
-I can't get the code to clear. When trying to clear code I have noticed that when I plug into the A1 socket the red light glows dimly even before I push button to retrieve any codes.
It does not glow (but I can get codes)when I plug into the other sockets.Could this mean anything??
