Radio crackle and brakes 850 1994

Here is a strange thing - on my 94 855 the radio sometimes gets a 'crackle' which makes listening to the local AM station almost impossible. What makes the noise go away is stepping on the brakes.

Now I'm wondering how the radio & the brakes are related. This has been going on since a timing belt change. Could a ground have come loose or is there some strange sort of static build up from something else?
