reverse lights do not work - where should I look first> 850 1995

If it is an auto tranny, then it is the PNP switch. There is no separate switch for the backup (reverse) light as in the manual tranny. You have to replace the whole PNP switch. For now, if it is happened intermittently, then you can try to ratchet the shifter from P to 1 and back for about 20 times.

You have to replace the PNP switch soon or later, otherwise, your car will fail the inspection sticker test.
