front bearings 850 1995

I own a 1995 volvo 850 turbo. I recantly found out from my mechanic that I need my front bearings replaced. He gave me an estamte for about $1200. I have two questions.
1. Is this over priced.
2. Is this normal, I only 100,000 miles on the car.
