850 info needed 850

I love 850's, especially the turbo models. But as others have said, and still others may yet say, they do have their weak points.

The A/C evaporator fails in many cars... the part is expensive, and the replacement task requires the complete removal of the dashboard... not a task for the faint-hearted.

The fuel pumps and the fuel pump relays are another frequent failure point.

And the ABS/TRACS module seems to fail eventually in just about all of them.

These things usually only go bad only once during the life of the car...I seldom hear of subsequent failures of the same systems. Perhaps the later parts manufacturing runs incorporated some improvements.

The only other complaint I have (if you consider it a "complaint") is that the performance level of the 850's seems to encourage higher speeds and more aggressive driving. The cars are certainly up to the task, but the parts consumption goes up as fast as the performance curve. They handle well, the turbos run like scalded cats, and the interior comfort and safety are second to none.

They tend to eat front brakes as a result. And 850 engines are interference motors... the timing belts must be replaced every 70,000 miles to avoid major meltdowns.

Read carefully what KlausC said. He knows what he's talking about.

Good luck
