Daane--I bought a cargo cover for my 97 GLT several years ago. I took it out of the box, looked at it, at the two plastic pieces that came with it, and wondered how in hell I should proceed. After a while it dawned on me that the two plastic looking end pieces were just templates. You position them on the window ledge, hold them in place, and use a half-inch drill that you slide through one of the holes and drill into your trim. The ends of the cover itself are spring loaded, and once you have the holes drilled in the trim using the templates (there's a right and a left) you can insert the cargo cover ends into the holes.

I used my cargo cover maybe half a dozen times, but basically found it a pain the a-- to remove when I wanted to tote around something it couldn't cover. There's some really good negative reasoning regarding a cover, and that is, while it may hide from view expensive objects that would excite a crash and grabber, covering them up would also picque the curiosity of your crash and grabber. "What's he got under there that he doesn't want me to see? No doubt expensive." So goes the logic. Be careful drilling the holes in your trim with that big bit. If you don't really hold the template in place the bit will wander some and give you an oval hole. I also discovered the templates weren't all that accurate when it came to positioning them on the window ledge trim, so again, be careful. On the 70 series Volvo cast a recess in the window trim that the cargo cover ends just drop into, but no such simple solution on our 850's. Dick
