850 Problems 850

I made the move from RWD to FWD Volvos about two years ago and wish I had done so sooner. As mentioned, the evaporator will fail at some point and an Indy AC shop will replace much cheaper than the dealer. The ABS control module will fail around 100K miles, but Vic Rocha in southern California will rebuild your unit to better than new for around $140. As for the rear main seal, keep an eye on the flame trap, and change the oil regularly. This board is a wealth of information, and can answer almost any repair related question (or guide you to somewhere that can).

I have had a ball with my 96 850GLT (non-turbo) and think for the style, comfort, and excitement, the 850 series is hard to beat. Try to get the maintenance history on the car you purchase just for peace of mind.

Good luck - hope you find the perfect 850.

Oliver

Almost a million Volvo miles and still smiling :)
