Common S40 problems include premature failure of engine and transmission mounts, short life of control arm ball joints (integrated with arm, have to replace the whole thing but easy to DIY), and sometimes water gets into connectors and they corrode. Then there is also bulbs that fail often, but that's just because there are so many of them! I would guess you have trouble with the mounts, but obviously this is only a guess.
