While my experience with PBR Deluxe pads is by no means universal, there were enough other people who have cited this extremely serious problem that I wrote up a web page about it:

FWIW, I've also used EBC Green Stuff. I wouldn't recommend them with Volvo or (common) Brembo rotors:

I'm now using Rofren pads that I bought from FCP Groton. Slightly better stopping power than stock, somewhat less dust, and cheaper too. I've had no problems with brake squeal, although I made sure to use an appropriate anti-squeal *adhesive* on the backs of the pads. (Brake *grease* is for caliper pins, although I read about novices using it as an anti-squeal agent all the time. Needless to say, they have squeal problems.)
