Probably not really really necessary (why IPD ommitted it) but any time I deal with electrical issues, I disconnect the battery. Never know what I might trip while I'm in there. Especially of concern is tripping an air bag, or turning its light on...if you do this, off to the dealer you go...and I know how much you dislike them at this point.
