rough idle and MAF or FPR 850 1994

No, but I noticed today that there is a hissing noise like a leak that seems to be coming from the pipe between the air idle valve and where it connects to the vacuum tower. Is this normal? I covered the pipe in insulating tape as it it had no visible defects but it made no difference. If I disconnect the connector to the idle valve the car will mostly stall on idle. I have the car booked into the Volvo dealer next week if I can't sort this before hand.
