Volvos do not sell diesels in the US of A. We loose.
There should be NO smoke during accelleration! I would suspect the turbo not working. The triangle is the Lambda light which indicates problems which MUST be fixed and probably related to the black smoke.
I would never buy any Volvo that hasn't been serviced. Never.
If I were you, I would keep on shopping. This does not sound like a bargain.
